I meet Amber Valletta in a glass-walled lounge inside her modelling agency’s offices in New York’s Flatiron District. It feels as if we’re inside a goldfish bowl, and looking out at the steady hum of activity — agents on their phones, milling between desks crammed with magazines and cups of coffee — it occurs to me that Valletta, wearing a nondescript black T-shirt, tailored plaid trousers and casual white Nikes, could be taken for one of the employees on the other side of the glass, not one of the agency’s most established and prized assets.
